Meet The Founder: Mikala Martin
Mikala is a visionary leader, social entrepreneur, and advocate for person-centered care, serving as the Executive Director of Mind Kind. With a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Bowie State University and a deep-rooted passion for empowering individuals and communities, Mikala has dedicated her career to ensuring that every person, regardless of circumstance, has access to the resources and support they need to thrive.
Mikala’s leadership is guided by a commitment to excellence, integrity, compassion, and a deep dedication to helping the most vulnerable populations. She believes that direct care services are more than just a means of support—they are a partnership that promotes dignity, stability, growth, and independence. These core values shape the programs at Mind Kind, ensuring that individuals receive high-quality, impactful services that support their long-term success.
Throughout her career, Mikala has held various leadership roles in overseeing housing, behavioral health, survivor support, developmental disability, and workforce development services. She has served many vulnerable populations, including older adults, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ communities, youth & families, and returning citizens. Her work has focused on ensuring access to essential resources, improving service delivery, and developing innovative solutions to meet the unique needs of those she serves.
Beyond social services, Mikala is an entrepreneur and a passionate supporter of the performing arts. She believes in the transformative power of creativity and incorporates artistic expression into the services provided at Mind Kind. Whether through arts-based groups, storytelling workshops, or community performances, she uses the arts as a tool for empowerment, self-discovery, and healing.
